Bariloche - practical information about buses, fares and hiking

Bariloche. a must see on your trip through the argentinian lake district.

Here is some practical information on how to get in and around:

Getting in by bus:

You'll get to the bus terminal, which is a little off the city centre. There are plenty of urban busses going to the city centre, best options being #10, 20, 21 and CATEDRAL. However you need to have a bus pass (tarjeta) of the bus company to pay for the bus. These are not sold at the bus terminal, only at a kiosco in the city center, which is at the central bus stop close to Moreno 320 (next to Super UNO supermarket). So, in order to get onto a bus you have several options:

  • talk the bus driver in letting you board and pay him cash (worked for us at 11pm, we payed $10 each (normal fare is $6)
  • ask other people at the bus stop if they have a bus pass with enough money on it to pay for you and pay them cash; make sure you get the bus ticket as proof of payment!
  • talk the bus driver in letting you board the bus without paying but then asking other people that board the bus if they are willing to pay for you with their card and pay them cash; make sure to get the bus ticket as proof of payment!

Getting around:

The public transport system with busses is very good; make sure you buy your rechargable bus pass (tarjeta) asap at the kiosco at Moreno 320 (next to Super UNO supermarket) and charge it! You can check bus lines and schedules online at www.3demayobariloche.com.ar.

Tipp: the CATEDRAL bus can be payed in cash! Fare from city centre to CATEDRAL: $10.

Trekking and hiking:

Secom veral good 1/2 day, 1 day or multi day hikes can be started out of Bariloche. Check out www.trekbariloche.com for detailed information on options.
